Senior Dog Photography: Why Carly’s Portraits Mean Everything Now

I’ve had the privilege of photographing dogs at every age and every stage. But senior dog photography holds a very special place in my heart.

Last week I bumped into a former client at an event. We started catching up, and she shared something that I haven’t stopped thinking about since. By the end of our conversation we were both a little teary, and I walked away feeling every bit of why I do this work.

This is her story. And honestly, it’s the reason I pick up my camera every single day.

A Session Full of Love and a Little Bit of Hope

When this family came to me, they had a beautiful golden retriever named Carly. She had already survived one battle with cancer, but they knew, with the quiet heartbreak that pet owners in that situation know all too well, that it likely wouldn’t be the last.

They wanted images of Carly full of life. Joyful. Herself.

And there was something else. Their daughter was getting married the following summer, and Carly might not be well enough to be there. So we made sure Carly would be there, one way or another.

The Wedding

On their daughter’s wedding day, Carly’s presence was felt throughout the day. Her images were woven into the celebration, a beloved family member honored exactly as she deserved to be.

I can only imagine what that moment felt like.

The Image That Starts Every Day

Carly passed not long after our session. And when her mom stopped me at that event last week, she told me about the artwork hanging in their home. About how every single morning, she walks past it. About how she looks at Carly, full of life and full of light, and carries that image with her into her day.

“This is the image that sends me on my way each day.”

It’s exactly why this work matters so much to me.

She also left me this review, and I want to share it here exactly as she wrote it because it says everything:

“Donna did a wonderful job capturing our Golden. She had survived one cancer, but we knew it wouldn’t be the last and we wanted images of her, full of life. Also, our daughter was getting married the following summer and if our dog couldn’t be there in person, we wanted images of her to be there. We now have wonderful images hanging in the house. One in particular, puts a smile on my face everyday. Donna really understands dogs and their special bond with us.”

Why Senior Dog Photography Can’t Wait

I am a photographer. But what I’m really doing, every single session, is building something that will outlast all of us. A piece of art that greets you in the morning. An image that carries someone you love through every room of your home, long after they are gone.

If you have a senior dog, or a dog facing illness, please don’t wait. Senior dog photography sessions are a gift you give yourself and your family, and last for many, many years to come.

Carly is on that wall every morning. And that is everything.

If you’re ready to create something that lasts, I’d be honored to hear your story.

Spring Is Here, Let’s Treasure these moments.

Why Spring Is the Most Beautiful (and Fleeting) Time to Capture Your Best Friend

There’s a moment in early spring, you know the one. The air shifts, the light softens, and suddenly the world is alive again. Your dog feels it too. You can see it in the way they lift their nose to catch the breeze, the extra bounce in their step, the pure, unfiltered joy of just being outside after months of grey skies and cold pavement.

That moment? It deserves to be on your wall forever.

The Magic of a Spring Session

Spring in New England is nothing short of extraordinary and unfortunately, can be very brief. The cherry blossoms at the Public Garden don’t wait. The daffodils bloom and fade in what feels like a matter of days. The wildflowers tucked along a quiet woodland path have their own quiet, fleeting season that most people never even notice.

But we will.

Whether we’re strolling through a sun-drenched garden bursting with color, or wandering a hidden forest trail where the light filters through new leaves like something out of a painting, spring gives us a backdrop that simply cannot be replicated any other time of year. Warm golden sunshine. Lush green grass beneath your dog’s paws. Blossoms everywhere you look.

This is the season of joy, and your dog is the perfect subject for it.

Before the Crowds Arrive – Spring Beach Sessions Are Available

Here’s a little secret that locals know well: right now is the best time for a beach session. Before the summer crowds descend and the parking lots fill, the shoreline belongs to us. Wide open stretches of sand, dramatic skies, and a dog who has never looked more free.

If a beach session has been on your wish list, now is the perfect window. Warm temperatures, but without all the pesky people everywhere. But it won’t last much longer.

Let’s Plan Your Perfect Spring Session

Every session I create is as unique as the dog at the center of it. Maybe your vision is romantic and garden-soft, think cherry blossoms, dappled light, and your pup looking absolutely regal among the blooms. Maybe it’s adventurous and soulful, a woodland path, dew on the ferns, your dog mid-leap over a mossy log.

Whatever your vision, I’d love to help you bring it to life.

Spring is fleeting. The blossoms will fall. The wildflowers will fade. But the images we create together? Those live on your walls, in your albums, and in your heart for a lifetime.

Reach out today to reserve your spring session, and let’s shake off those winter blues together.

Warmly,

Donna

Printed Photographs Matter More Than Ever in a Digital World

We live in a time when almost every moment is photographed. Our phones are full of images, social media feeds overflow with snapshots – and yet, paradoxically, the printed photographs we actually live with are rare. The ones that we can hold in our hands or hang on our walls. The ones we walk past every day.

Growing up, our house was filled with photographs of generations of my family. I got to see them every day, hear the stories, and feel part of something lasting and larger than me.

My parent’s wedding photograph hung in the living room my whole life

We are the most photographed generation in history – and somehow the one with the least tangible evidence of our lives. We scroll endlessly, searching for a photo to show a friend, and most of our favorite images are buried somewhere in a camera roll we never revisit. And here’s what people say they regret most when they lose their homes or possessions: the photographs. Not the furniture. Not the things. The photographs.

Because photographs are more than decoration. They are memory made visible. Presence made permanent. The moments we treasure, given a place to live.

Which is exactly why printed photographs of our families matter so much – and dogs are a huge part of our families. They steal our hearts, our laps, sometimes even our socks. The moments we share with them deserve more than a swipe. Our first day together, a romp in the woods, the way your dog looks at you when no one else is around – these are the details that shape our lives and remind us what matters.

That’s exactly why I do what I do. I photograph dogs and the people who love them, and turn those sessions into portrait artwork and custom albums that become a genuine part of your home. Beautifully made, thoughtfully designed, and meaningful enough that you’ll wonder how your walls ever lived without them.

If you’d love to have that – for your dog, in your home – I’d love to make it happen.
